This model is an excellent choice for clients that will be using whole animals for classes and do not wish to work with live animals. The animals are euthanized and shipped fresh or frozen as per the client’s request. This method saves the need for room to house live animals, the need to procure feed and bedding, animal care staff, lead time for animal quarantine as well as committee approval. All research swine are managed by professional porcine specialists and veterinarians in order to maintain the highest standards of health and genetics.

All growing areas for pigs to be used as porcine cadavers are state-of-the-art climate-controlled buildings. Growing pigs receive special diets formulated on the farm for each age and weight group according to the NRC (National Research Council) (1983) recommendations. Air in some buildings is hepa-filtered with up to 100 fresh air changes per hour. Temperature is maintained year round at 74-80 degrees Fahrenheit. All feeding, watering and manure removal is done automatically.
